A Mixtec ceremonial vessel

An extremeley rare part of a ceremonial vessel in the shape of a human or jaguar head. Mixtec, Mexico. Dated between 1000 – 1500 AD. Terracotta with a painted decor.

Provenance
Collected in Mexico before1984. On loan to the Ethnographical Museum Cuyk, The Netherlands by mr. W. Roon, Eindhoven and returned to his collection after the closing of this museum in 2015.
