A Nicoya figure

This terracotta figure is representing a female seated with hands on her hip. The mat symbols on her shoulders and thighs indicate power or authority. The paint is extraordinarily well preserved. Terracotta with red, yellow and black paint. Costa Rica, Nicoya period V, 600 – 800 CE.
